      • 1602 Geneva Bible

This Bible had already undergone an interesting and unfortunate repair,

        perhaps around 150 years ago.

This book required sections to be rebuilt and resewn

as well as a new toned spine piece.

This Bible was an heirloom that needed a new cover.

I inset the original cover which was embossed with her mother's name.

      • Manuscript, early 1800

One of the most challenging aspects of modern conservation is the removal of pressure sensitive tape.

First the plastic carrier is removed, then the adhesive itself.

This oversize drawing had to be surface cleaned before it could be mended.

      • Hymnal, 1890s

This repair required stabilizing the end bands for reuse. The text block also contained cellulose-carrier tape with water soluble adhesive, which is much easier to remove than modern tape.

      • About SB&P

Hello! I'm Kathryn Wright, the owner and conservator.

I'm also working solo, so you'll always interact with me directly.

        Private Clients

I repair cherished heirloom books, including Bibles, cookbooks, and vintage children's books.

Most of my clients are out of state and ship to me. I have an easy, fillable PDF contract and packing/shipping instructions that I send via email.

Local clients can sign paperwork at a drop-off appointment.

        Work typically ranges from $400-$2000+.

        Institutional Clients

I also provide conservation treatment services for museums and special collections/archives, including appropriate written and photo documentation.

Unfortunately, I am unable to submit bids for federally funded projects.

Please go ahead and send me photos of your item!

I can usually do an accurate estimate based on photos.

At the very least, photos allow us to have an informative conversation.

The two best ways to contact me are:

        1. texting photos and your name to my cell: 478.416.2743.

        2. emailing photos to me: kathryn@southernbnp.com

I usually answer texts and emails first thing in the morning.

Please do not call and leave a voicemail.

I'm rarely able to answer the phone.

At best, I check my voicemail once a week.

I look forward to seeing photos of your treasured items!
